A Tradition of Interesting People
Each year Philcon headlines its proceedings with at least two principal guests, an author and an artist — often transported from overseas. Some years include a third guest, a notable in editing, fandom, or music. We've been doing this since 1936, so we've met a lot of the movers-and-shakers in our field; but the dance card keeps growing longer.
In addition to the banner names, the conference also attracts a wide range of participants, people involved in every aspect of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror: not just visual artists, authors, and editors, but also computer and board game designers; engineers, scientists and linguists; actors, voice actors, directors, film-makers, musicians, and specialists in costuming and make-up. Any professional you can imagine, we've got; plus experts in every obscure corner of fandom. Most of them are from Philcon's footprint, the U.S. Mid-Atlantic States, and many are repeat attendees.
A majority of guests and participants make themselves available to converse at meet-and-greet receptions, after panel discussions, and outside convention hours. The pros are first and foremost fans themselves, and enjoy meeting you as much as you're eager to meet them.
