  Main and Literary Programming

Our main programming track presents panels structured on the literature of the imagination, whether science fiction, fantasy, horror or a combination of those genres. It is also responsible for presenting the Principal Speaker, the other Guests of Honor and certain special programs such as the SF Quiz Show and other items of interest. Two years removed from the program David Gerrold called “the best SF program ever put on at a con” and that Connie Willis said was “well run and excellent,” the Main Programming Committee seeks to keep the momentum going. Please see our topics on the Philcon website for further info. If you have any questions relating to main programming, please contact Oz Fontecchio at mainprog@philcon.org.

SF, Fantasy, & Horror Writing Workshop

A long-time feature of Philcon, this is a chance for you to get your story critiqued by professional writers and editors. The workshop will take place Saturday at the conference and take two hours—one for you to read all the available stories, the other for critiquing. Any member of Philcon may submit a story. Entries will be accepted based on the number of open slots available. Send ten copies, in proper manuscript format, to:

Darrell Schweitzer
6644 Rutland Street, Philadelphia, PA 19149-2128
email to: writerworkshop@philcon.org

Stories must be received two weeks before the conference.

Student Writing Competition

Another great tradition at Philcon is our Student Writing Competition. Open to all students from schools in the Philadelphia region, the contest awards prizes for original works of science fiction. Interested students, teachers, and PTAs can obtain specific rules by contacting Lew Wolkoff at stories@philcon.org.
