Art Show for Artists
Dear Artist,
Once again the Philadelphia Science Fiction Society will be holding its annual convention. Philcon 2004 will take place December 10-12, 2004. Our hotel is the Marriott Center City at 12th and Market Sts. in Philadelphia. This was the main hotel for the 2001 Worldcon; the management invited Philcon back with great room rates. The Art Show will be located in the Franklin Ballroom, located on the fourth floor.
Philcon is a "regional" SF/F convention with an attendance of approximately 1500 people. The Philcon Art Show is currently one of the larger East Coast SF/F con art shows. We feel that Philcon 2004 will be our best yet and we wish to invite you to participate in this convention.
Both flat and 3D artwork (but only one copy of any print) will be accepted for display and sale in the Art show. Flat art is displayed on pegboard panels supported by a framework of pipes arranged in U-shaped bays 6' deep and 6' across. One full panel is 4' high and 6' wide; a half-panel is 4' x 3'. Each artist may reserve a maximum of three full panels (one full bay). Tables for 3D art are 2.5' deep and 6' long. There will be a Print Shop where additional copies of prints may be sold.
No commission will be taken from sales; there is only a hanging fee of $25.00 for a full panel or table . The option of price after closeout is available. Four written bids will be required for entry in the voice auction on Sunday afternoon.
There will be a charity Sketch-a-Thon and an auction to benefit ASFA on Sunday. (Donations of artwork for the auction will be gratefully accepted and are tax deductible!) The Meet the Pros Reception will be held late Friday evening in the Art Show. There will be judged and popular awards, including the category of Best Artwork honoring Philcon's Principal Speaker (Brian Aldiss in 2004).
We invite you to personally attend our convention. Babysitting should be available; please tell Art Show and/or Registration if you'll need it for your children. An attending membership is only $40 if you send it in with your Art Show registration., $45 if bought separately or later, and more at the door. Please use the convention flyer enclosed in this packet, or on the Philcon website.
If you are unable to attend Philcon 2004, you may be represented by an agent, if you provide written authorization. Mailed-in art will be accepted only with prior approval by and arrangement with the Art Show Director. The first 20 requests for mailed-in art will be honored. Mail-in artists may reserve up to one full panel or table. There is an additional handling fee of $10 per artist for mailed-in art.
A complete copy of the Art Show rules is enclosed. Please read it thoroughly before you return your registration form.
Assignment of display space is determined by postmark. Please complete the enclosed Art Show registration form and return it before October 30, 2004. Our "deadline" allows me time for processing and to get paperwork back to you and to other Philcon departments before the con.
We look forward to your participation and presence at Philcon 2004.
