Poul Anderson News

Poul Anderson has informed the Philcon Committee that he will not be attending Philcon. He is having some health problems and his doctors have cautioned him against flying to Philcon for his scheduled Special Guest appearance. His wife, SF author Karen Anderson, will read the Special Guest speech he has prepared and do a reading on his behalf of an excerpt from his upcoming fantasy/biography of Queen Gunnhild of Norway, MOTHER OF KINGS. She will also fill in on some of his scheduled programs. All of us on the Philcon Committee join in wishing Poul a rapid recovery. There will be a book on the PSFS table in the dealer's room for attendees of the Conference to write their best wishes to Poul which will be presented to his wife on Sunday of the con.

Congratulations Vernor on winning the Best Novel Hugo for A Deepness in the Sky.

Welcome! This year we say a fond farewell to the 20th century. There has been a feeling of nostalgia as we review the last 1000 years of SF history. To celebrate, we have Bob Walters, the man who paints the "d" in Dinosaurs. Poul Anderson, a grand master of SF literature, whose stories range from the dawn of Pulp to the age of the Web. Vernor Vinge, the visionary of the future, who gives us glimpses of what is to come.

This year we are embracing the diversity of our fannish culture. We will have the elegance of a bygone era at our Friday night Regency Ball and the Mystique of the Middle East is captured in the veils of our Saturday Hafla. Our masquerade will have the theme of "Out with the Old Millennium and In With the New Millennium." It promises to be a festive sendoff of the old and an excited anticipation of the new. Plus lots of great programming in Art, Costuming, The Sciences, Writing, and Readings. Children's programming for ages 6 and up will again be here with activites to stimulate the mind and hands.

Share with us, make this last Philcon of the Millennium
part of the best memories we take into the new eon.
