Weapons

No Weapons: guns, gun replicas, swords, knives, lasers, model lasers, or anything that could be perceived as a weapon by the public will be permitted at Philcon. The Philcon Committee has the final say on what constitutes a weapon. Unfortunately, we must reserve the right to revoke the membership of anyone who refuses to comply with this policy. The only exception is for registered participants of the Masquerade, who may wear a weapon, excepting guns and operational lasers, from one-half hour before to one-half hour after the Masquerade. All Masquerade weapons must be affixed to the costume. Participants in the Costumer's Workshop may also wear weapons with the same restrictions, while in the workshop.

Parties

If your group intends to host an open party at Philcon, you must:

contact the Party Czar (partyczar@philcon.org) in advance!

There will be seed supplies for all groups hosting open parties! (read: free stuff) We will also be posting a Party Board in the main convention hallway. When you contact us, please tell us: 1) The name of your group; 2) The tentative day and time of your party; 3) If you would like a suite.

If you would like a suite, please give us the name the room will be listed under, and if there will be additional people staying in the room. Deadline to book suites is October 16, 1999! You will be notified of suite assignments soon after.

If you would like a suite near another friend/group, please tell us. We cannot guarantee that friends will get suites next to each other, but we can try!

*PLEASE NOTE*

  • Philcon membership is required to host or attend a party
  • Alcohol may not be served at any open party. If alcohol is served, the hosts will be responsible for checking the ages of the attendees.

Any party that does serve alcohol must be a closed/invitation-only party. Be aware that the Hotel Liaison can enter the party at any time.

Babysitting

Babysitting will be offered again this year to all members of the conference.

Parents and children must be pre-registered by October 15th.

Babysitting is available for children ages three months to six years old.

The fee is $40 per child, and includes the cost of a regular child's membership; parents must spend two hours per child helping out in Babysitting.

Hours are:
Friday: 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm; 6:00pm to midnight.
Saturday: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; 6:00 pm to midnight.
Sunday: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

You must pick up your child for the dinner hour on Friday and Saturday, and you must feed your children all other meals. Juice and crackers will be provided for snacks.

Philcon reserves the right to refuse to provide babysitting services to any child when we feel it is appropriate.

Roommate Matching

We don't want anyone to miss Philcon because of a tight budget, and to that end, we are again offering to match up fans who are willing to share the cost of a hotel room, but who do not have anyone to share with.

If you wish to take advantage of this service, Please write to us at the P.O. Box, or email us at roommate@philcon.org, and list the dates that you will be arriving and departing, the type of room you want (quiet/party, smoking/non) and whether you are willing to share with a member of the opposite sex.

We will make every effort to find someone who meets your requirements, but we cannot guarantee success.

Please act quickly, as you still have to send in the reservation form to the hotel, once you receive your roommate.

**Please note: you must already be a registered for Philcon before any roommate services can be performed.**
