Presented by the Philadelphia Science
Fiction Society Make-up artists are perhaps among the
film and television industry's most unsung heroes. His many
accomplishments as actor and stunt man make Tom Savini one
of the best-known Hollywood stars you've probably never
heard of. He has films like Man of a Thousand Faces,
Dawn of the Dead, Creepshow, Friday the
13th, and From Dusk Till Dawn tucked
under his belt. Every one of these films, and many more,
wouldn't be half as memorable without his magic
touch. Friday the 13th went
from low-budget horror flick to box-office blockbuster under
Savini's sure hand and&endash;monstrous&endash;vision. The
1980 movie put him in demand as one of the film industry's
leading men for ghoulish and gory special effects. The
terrifying magic and evil-genius illusions he creates for
the screen manifested in him at the tender age of 12, where
he could be found making imaginatively grotesque faces in
the bathroom mirror while the other kids were outside
playing football. And occasionally he still gets to be
grotesque not only behind the scenes but for an audience,
like his role as the biker character Sex Machine in the
vampire movie From Dusk Till Dawn. The
