Nancy Kress is the author of twelve books: three fantasy novels, five science fiction novels, two collections of short stories, one mystery novel, and a book on writing fiction: Beginnings, Middles, and Ends. Her most recent novel is Oaths and Miracles (1996, Tor Books), her first foray into the mystery genre (and a most successful one). Coming soon is the sequel to Beggars in Spain and Beggars and Choosers. Beggars in Spain was based on her novella of the same name, which won both the Hugo and Nebula Awards in 1992. Kress's short fiction appears regularly in Omni, Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine, and other major SF publications. In addition to the awards for "Beggars in Spain," she was awarded the 1985 short story Nebula for "Out of All Them Bright Stars." Her work has been translated into Swedish, French, Italian, German Spanish, Polish, Lithuanian, Japanese, Russian, and Romanian. Kress is the monthy "Fiction" columnist for Writer's Digest magazine. In a former life that still occasionally revivies itself, she was a copywriter for Xerox, Bausch & Lomb, Kodak, and various other corporations. She lives with her two children, Kevin and Brian, in upstate New York. | |||||
